The family-owned company Reuter is well known for first-class service, a wide product range and reliable deliveries. To ensure that these qualities can convince and satisfy even more customers in the future, the Mönchengladbach-based company has had a new logistics centre built on home soil. In addition to state-of-the-art equipment and optimal working conditions, the focus of the new building was on sustainability and environmental friendliness. Therefore, the choice of façade elements for the warehouse fell on QuadCore® panels from Kingspan, which not only impress with their high economic efficiency and ease of installation, but also with their advanced ecological performance.

The new reuter.de warehouse boasts all the characteristics of state-of-the-art logistics. A fully automated high-bay warehouse with a total of 32 loading gates is being built on an area of 32,000 square metres, at which articles such as bathtubs, shower systems, kitchen fittings or living room lights can be loaded and unloaded and shipped safely and quickly in future, day and night. The building also includes a 1,000 m2 photo and film studio where the comprehensive product portfolio can be vividly presented to customers. A contemporary, three-storey office building with 2,300 m2 of space also provides room for administrative activities.
The logistics centre stands out above all because of its open and progressive structure. It has no partition walls and is thus emphatically open and freely accessible for the 400 employees, who can also enjoy the natural lighting provided by large window areas and skylights. Automated product supply also shortens the walking distances of the employees and thus reduces their physical strain, while the internal transport of goods is largely handled by driverless transport devices.

Excellent fire protection and energy efficiency combined
The family-owned company’s strong focus on the future and its ongoing commitment to sustainability are not only reflected in the building’s progressiveness and the involvement of its employees, but also significantly influenced the choice of building materials for the new warehouse. Since the logistics area was realised as one large section without fire walls thanks to a mechanical smoke extraction system, an enlarged sprinkler system and area-wide smoke monitoring, the elements chosen for the building envelope also had to have excellent fire protection properties.

Kingspan meets all these requirements with its KS1000 AWP-A QuadCore® wall panel. The façade element with the innovative QuadCore® insulation core not only offers high cost-effectiveness and easy installation, it also has impressive and certified fire protection performance as well as advanced environmental properties. Thus, the lightweight, fibre-free panels with low installation effort ensure low operating costs and a significant gain in space due to thinner walls. The structure with its fine-pored foam also ensures reliable fire safety and increased energy efficiency with a lambda value of 0.18. This made the element perfectly suited for Reuter’s building project, which was planned by the architectural firm Phase 5 from Düsseldorf. The architects recommended the panel because of its future-oriented approach and ecological performance. 7,550 m2 of the panel with a core thickness of 120 mm and an achieved U-value of 0.15 were installed in the project.

Sustainability as the top priority
However, the company’s environmental awareness does not stop at the choice of suitable building materials. With a view to responsibility for future generations, Reuter had the new logistics centre built according to the certification standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and is currently striving for certification. The DGNB system considers all essential aspects of sustainable building and covers the six topics of ecology, economy, socio-cultural and functional aspects, technology, processes and location. In addition, the certification assesses the quality of the logistics centre over its entire life cycle. The innovative QuadCore® panel convinces in all these points, which is why the entire logistics centre was realised with the façade element for energy- and cost-efficient building solutions.

Optimal solution for a demanding building task
“The KS1000 AWP-A wall panel with QuadCore® insulation core is FM Global certified and thus meets the insurance requirements for this project, which stands out due to its special fire protection provisions. It is also an economically optimal solution that is also environmentally friendly,” says Kay Landrock, architect at Phase 5. “We have worked with Kingspan on various logistics properties in the past and have always had good experiences with the company and its products. And on this project, too, we were more than satisfied with the quality of the panels and the service.”

Thanks to the high-quality and durable QuadCore® panels, the Reuter Logistics Centre in Mönchengladbach is ideally equipped for the future, not only because of the modern fittings, but also because of the durable and energy-efficient façade. The façade elements from Kingspan prove that, thanks to intelligent planning with QuadCore®, it does not always have to be mineral wool to ensure reliable fire protection.
